…it's not built for an extreme ride.
This electric scooter is for sensible commuters that intends to conquer urban areas without pedaling or being bored on a bus.
Also, it's a bargain if you ask me.
Ready to See What You Can Get from Gotrax GXL?
Gotrax GXL runs smoothly, and it has a sturdy base. The standing base is a little bit higher off the ground then competitors.
Ground clearance is 4 inches, and that is enough even in seriously urban areas.
And, yes, one more thing. If you need folding electric scooter, this one won’t disappoint you. Gotrax GXL is a foldable electric scooter, but that’s not all…
…as soon as you take it for a first ride, you’ll feel that is well-constructed and one perfect last-mile solution. However, it can deliver even if you want longer trips.

All that leaves you with the feeling that you’re going to be pretty satisfied with this e scooter. No doubt in that.
What about Gotrax GXL Specs?
If you are eager to find out what numbers have to tell you, this list is for you:
- 250Watt motor – nothing too crazy, but enough
- 15 mph – again, this is not savage e scooter
- 220 lbs – try not to reach that limit
- 31 lbs – you can pick it up easily
- 36V battery – pretty standard
- 12.5 miles – lighter riders can exceed that range
- 8,5 inches wheels – it’s safe and practical for urban areas
Gotrax GXL is perfect for commuters and children. As you can see, numbers are not too crazy, and you won’t get some savage and jacked-up electric scooter. However, it has everything that average commuter needs.
Saving money, avoiding crowd, and get to your destination faster – are you interested in this?
Well, if yes, you can count on this electric scooter.
It has two-speed settings:
- first speed – 10mph
- second speed – 15 mph
Maybe you want to put it in first when you give it to your child. Otherwise, I suggest the second speed. At least, that’s the way I roll. Don’t be scared. This is not too fast. You’ll get used to it.
Gotrax GXL Real-life Situation
*Spoiler alert – there are no numbers!
Here you won’t find something that you can put the finger on. However, it’s crucial if you are thinking about purchasing this scooter…

First thing you need to know is that gotrax GXL is water resistant – not waterproof. Be careful, avoid rain and big puddles. Wash it carefully, dry it with a cotton rug.
I know that when you stand on this e scooter, it will bring out the kid in you. That is the case with me every time I ride it. But, avoid rain and going through every puddle you see on the surface.
The next thing is something underrated. You’ll love it. No matter what range manufacturer promises you or how far you can ride, we have to be honest with ourselves – at some point, we will run out of the battery. In the middle of our trip. That’s just a fact.
What’s excellent about Gotrax GXL is after that happens we can easily use it as a kick scooter. It’s light, there is no resistance, and it’s easy to control it as well.
One thing you have to be aware of. In that scenario, only the rear brake is working. You’re going to understand after the next chapter.
Safety First – Focus on This!
Here’s what we got…
You have front and rear double braking system. It’s anti-look and regenerative as well. Front one is regenerative, and it’s only working if your battery is on.
The rear wheel is a disc brake, and you have a small pedal you need to step on. That one you have even if you run out of a battery. It works amazingly well, and you don’t need to worry about anything.
It's smart thing to do is go through this >>> How to be safe on electric scooter?
Next feature is a life-saver. There is no 360 degrees spin when it comes to steering. Yes, that’s what I mean. Steering locks and you can oversteer and fall on at your face.
The Good News Doesn't Stop There
As you can see, there are no numbers at all, but these things are important ones. It’s safe and practical. It’s great for an adult commuter, and freely we can say that Gotrax GXL is one of the best electric scooters for kids.
The other thing that I appreciate is visibility. There’re reflective tapes to each side, and you have an ultra-bright headlight. However, there is no rear light. In my opinion, those rear lights are absurdly low.
Even when e scooter has one I buy that one that I can put on my back or helmet from behind. It’s higher, and drivers and other people can see me without any problems.
I don’t know how you feel when you have that rear light on. In my case, I always wonder if they see that light that is a few inches from the ground surface. And that gives me some uncomfortable sensation. In either case, I have something like this. If you’re feeling same, this will get you off the roller coaster of worrying.
Can You Handle the Downsides of Gotrax Gxl?
I have to tell you something. But I’m sure that you already know that. Yes, nothing is perfect. That’s also the case with Gotrax GXL.
However, I could live with these tiny flaws. Maybe you could as well. Perhaps you couldn’t. Well, let’s find out.
Here’re the things that are not so great:
- no cruise-control
- no rear light
- no shock absorbers
- brakes are touchy
- 4h recharge time
That is not something that is going to ruin my party with Gotrax GXL. If you are buzzing through the city, you don’t need cruise control.
And when it comes to the rear light, we’ve already discussed that in the previous chapter.
Gotrax GXL Comfort
When people start to talk about comfort on electric scooters, bikes and things like that – that is a bit silly.
We all know that comfort is almost impossible to achieve on the road if you are not in your electric car. Honestly, scooters are only more or less uncomfortable.

There is no super-comfy, perfect gliding on electric scooters. There is an only more or less bumpy ride. That is what it is. But we’re riding these machines because we want to.
Here you can find electric scooters that are more comfortable, but the price is also considerably higher >>> 7 Most expensive electric scooters in the world.
And because we love it and it’s super convenient. Way too many times we faced traffic jam and get mad...
…in our comfy seats, right? So, electric scooters provide us what we want and what we need. Comfort is not in the first plan.
Brakes are a bit sensitive on Gotrax GXL. But you only need a few rides to get used to it. That’s recommended when it comes to any other vehicle as well.
Yes, these are a bit sensitive, but they work perfectly. Recharge time is 4 hours. I don’t care. I’ll wait. I love it, and that is a small price to pay.
I don’t know why, but some people call this short list deal-breaker drawbacks. And they can’t get over it. I’m not that guy. I like what this e scooter provides to me.
And I’m ready to adjust a little bit and enjoy in what this scooter has to offer. After what you saw, you can be sure that it has plenty…
Final Thoughts
As you can see, Gotrax GXL is one serious commuter that can also put a huge smile on your face. Your satisfaction is, I’m pretty sure, guaranteed.
I don’t know what the case with you is, but I don’t like being bored in traffic on the bus or in my car. I want to have fun and save some money. However, I don’t like spending an enormous amount of money on an electric scooter as well.
If you have a similar way of thinking when it comes to commuting and traffic, this e scooter can be your winning combination.
