However, if you look at the Hiboy S2 Pro closely, you will notice that its main strengths are also its weakest point, which might take you on the rocky ride — literally.

While you will never need to worry about its reliability and regular maintenance is almost non-existent due to its solid tires and lack of front suspension, not every ride is going to be enjoyable.

So, let's dive into the details and see if this e-scooter checks all the right boxes on your quest for the perfect ride.

Hiboy S2 Pro Assembly

With the manufacturer’s emphasis on the practical, assembling the Hiboy S2 Pro is fast and easy.

All the necessary tools are included in the box and all you need to do is attach the handlebar.

However, be sure to properly tighten it with four screws since you can cause severe damage if loose screws vibrate over a prolonged time.

Once it's done, the next and optional step is to connect the Hiboy S2 Pro to the smartphone app since it will give you many options for customization.

And that's it—since the wheels use solid tires, you won't have to check or add tire pressure or waste time. The scooter is ready for the first ride.

Construction & Build Quality

One thing is for sure: Hiboy S2 Pro is made to last.

The durability of the Hiboy S2 Pro is, without a doubt, probably its biggest strength.

The main construction is made from aviation-grade aluminum alloy, giving it a robust feel and overall reliability.

And while there's almost no risk of being damaged by everyday use, you should pay extra attention to its weak spots.

The first is the throttle switch, since its spring could break after too much pressure.

@hiboy.com

In this case, you will need to replace the entire handlebar since the spring is hidden deep inside it.

The second thing you should keep in mind is that the battery is located below the deck, exposing it to direct impacts.

So, even though this scooter can handle a lot of abuse, it's never a good idea to expose the battery to constant blows.

However, if you’re not planning on using this scooter for stunts or extreme road conditions, occasional deck hits won't cause critical damage.

While this build choice gives the scooter enhanced durability and the risk of frame cracks is minimal, it doesn’t put it in the ultra-lightweight scooters category.

With its 36lbs (about 16kg), it's still fairly easy to pick it up. However, it can be challenging to carry it for a prolonged period of time.

This is definitely the thing to consider if you have a long flight of stairs you need to climb in your daily commute.

The matte-black finish, which became a standard among electric scooters long ago, gives it an elegant and premium look.

The frame is sealed, protecting all the vital elements from water and dirt, giving it an IP54 water-resistant rating.

While you do not have to worry about getting caught in rain, it's not advisable to ride on wet or slippery roads since the solid tires have reduced traction and they can be quite unpredictable.

Portability

Folding this scooter is pretty much straightforward, and you do not need any additional tools.

Once you get the routine, it will take you a few short seconds to go from riding positions to a fully folded, transportation-ready state.

The folding process is fluid and comes naturally: just flip down the folding lock lever, collapse the stem and attach the hook (the one next to the handlebar) to the latch on the rear fender.

Once it's done, the scooter can be picked up safely and carried without the risk of unexpected unfolding.

Once Folded: It's compact and, due to its short handlebar, can be easily put in even tight spaces, such as a car's trunk or under the desk at the office.

Hiboy S2 Pro Motor Configuration

The Hiboy S2 pro uses a single motor to get you from point A to point B, but what it lacks in quantity, the Hiboy makes up in quality—it's a powerful 500W electric brushless hub motor.

It will provide a max speed of 19 mph (around 30 km/h).This 500W motor has enough torque to overcome up to 15 degrees of uphill terrain.

@hiboy.com

However, as is always the case with single-motor scooters, do not overexpose your scooter to prolonged climbing since it will lead to overheating and potential damage.

The motor is on the front wheel, which usually leads to a slow start and sluggish acceleration. However, that's not the case here.

The speed of 15 mph (around 24km/h) is reached in 5.2 seconds.

Of course, you should always take the manufacturer's specs with a grain of salt, since you always need to consider body weight and the terrain conditions.

With that being said, the max load that the S2 Pro can carry is 220lbs (around 100kg).

Hiboy S2 Pro Battery Life

The motor is powered by a 36V/11.6AH high capacity battery that will get you 25 miles (around 40km) of range in ideal conditions.

However, in the real world, at full speed and various terrain conditions, it's more likely that you will get somewhere between 12 to 14 miles (around 20-23km).

@hiboy.com

While the battery is placed below the deck, the charging port is near the handlebar, making charging more accessible.

However, if for any reason you need the charging port closer to the ground, you can always fold the stem.

Charging time is around six hours, from empty to full, which is expected for a scooter in this price range.

Even Better: The charging port is also protected from water and dust with a rubber cap.

Hiboy S2 Pro Handlebar

One of the things that directly impacts the quality of the Hiboy S2 Pro ride is that the handlebar is too narrow.

While there's enough space for your wrists on the rubber grips, there is only enough space for one additional accessory such as:

  • Independent light
  • horn
  • turn signal control
  • or your smartphone

Of course, adding the handlebar extender is always an option. However, it would be nice to have extra space straight out of the box.

The handlebars grips are not the worst we have seen, but not the best either. They are made from rubber, with a decent texture.

However, they are not secured to the bar and can rotated a bit, which can be annoying during a ride.

Also, they get slick with moisture, which can be a potential safety issue.

Below the LED panel, you will find a folding hook that can be used as a safe place to attach your backpack or grocery bag.

The brakes are placed on both sides of the handlebars. A more powerful, manual handbrake is on the right side, and it controls the rear disc brake.

On the left side of the handlebar is an electronic thumb brake. While it lacks enough power for a quick stop, it's still a regenerative brake that can add extra mileage during a ride.

For an emergency stop, you will need to engage both brakes simultaneously.

And to help prevent accidents, you have a loud and easily accessible bell on the right side of the handlebars, between the acceleration and handbrake.

Display & Hiboy S2 Pro Cruise Control

The LED display is integrated into the handlebar, and it's located in the middle of it. It's bright and easy to read in all conditions.

If you are not using the Hiboy app, you can use it to get immediate info about speed, ride settings ('Sport' or 'Comfort' mode), battery level, status, and the motor temperature.

On the other hand, if you decide to download the free official app, you will get a bunch of additional options for further customization.

Some of them include choosing the preferred start (kick to start or by pressing the acceleration button), the electronic brake preference and sensitivity, real-time riding stats, power consumption stats, light and lock control, among others.

The app will work with iOS and Android smartphones. Connection is made via Bluetooth and it's stable.

@hiboy.com

If you prefer more economical use of the battery, then cruise control is a crucial part of your ride.

It can be activated with three clicks on the button or by maintaining the same speed for seven seconds.

On the front side of the handlebar is an integrated light.

It's bright enough for riding at dusk. However, if night riding is part of your daily routine, you should invest in a dedicated headlight.

However, the Highboy S2 Pro has three system lights that will keep you visible in the dark. There is an integrated taillight on the rear fender. Also, there are very bright integrated sidelights.

The downside of this light system is that you cannot control them separately, and there's no option to change the colors of the sidelights and the bright red can become annoying after some time.

Deck

The deck has enough room for both feet, adding to the quality of the cruise. You won't need to compromise your foot position or put yourself in weird stances.

The deck has rubber matting with a grippy texture that provides more than decent traction. It's thick and solid, so it won't peel off easily.

There's an option to add the seat to the deck and make your longer rides even more comfortable.

All in all, the deck is enough wide, sturdy, and safe for all weather conditions. At the end of the deck, there's a reinforced rear fender.

Having a rear fender attaches gives you the best of both worlds—it's a good mudguard, you get some additional space since you can rest your feet on it, and your rear tire will last longer since it's better protected.

On the other hand, you're losing the foot brake, which can be crucial for emergency stops depending on your riding style.

Brakes

However, even though the Hiboy doesn't have a foot brake on the rear wheel, it still has two efficient hand brakes:

  • a manual rear disk brake on the right side of the handlebar
  • and an electric thumb brake on the left.

These two combined have enough stopping power to get you from 15mph to 0 in about 14 ft.

Also, if you use only the front electronic brake, you will get extra mileage on your battery due to its regenerative properties.

Wheels

As mentioned before, the Hiboy S2 Pro has 10-inch solid tires, and they come with good and bad properties.

The good thing about them is that they are fully puncture-proof. That means no flats and no regular tire pressure checks, which can be frustrating.

And with the reinforced rear fender, you can expect an even longer lifespan since the rear tire won't be worn out by the foot brake.

@hiboy.com

On the other hand, the ride will get bumpy and full of vibration due to solid tires, especially at higher speeds.

If the riding conditions are anything but perfect, you will feel a strong vibration in your hands and legs.

The lack of suspension provided by air-filled tires is somewhat compensated for by the honeycomb design with built-in air pockets.

However, do not expect too much from them.

And with occasional pothole hits, since there is no front wheel suspension, you can expect to feel your teeth rattle.

Suspension

There are two rear spring shock absorbers with about a half-inch of travel, which is not enough since there is only rear suspension on the entire scooter.

And if you are planning on using the seat, cracks and bumps won't be too gentle on your butt cheeks.

The main problem with the Hiboy S2 Pro suspension is the complete lack of front suspension since the front tires absorbs most of the bumps.

Safety

With an IP54 water-resistant rating, a spacious deck with good traction and solid braking systems, it's safe to say that the Hiboy S2 Pro is a great beginner’s scooter.

Besides the standard warnings, such as not riding on slippery roads due to solid tires or without the dedicated headlight during night rides and not hitting the belly side of the deck where the battery is placed, you don't have to think too much.

The scooter has an integrated locking systems that will disable throttle and lock the front wheel. However, do not rely on them alone since the scooter is foldable and light enough to be easily stolen.

Warranty & Support

There is a standard 12-month warranty with a 30-day "no questions asked" policy.

However, these are valid only when ordered from the official website or authorized distributors, so be sure to check the terms before purchase.

The Hiboy offers standard support via email, and they can be reached at us.support@hiboy.com

There is an official claim that they will respond within 24 hours, however, do not count on that.

Usually, it will take days to get things sorted out and even weeks before you get new parts.

Before Contacting Support: Be sure to have your scooter's serial number since it will speed things a bit.

Summary

Durable, reliably, and safe.

Nice looking design with a single powerful motor and a big battery. Functional mobile app and a lot of options for customization.

Attachable seat and high portability. These wins make the Hiboy S2 Pro an excellent beginner scooter for urban rides and commuting.

@hiboy.com

However, this scooter is not recommended for off-road ride or rough paths for the same reasons since you will feel every vibration in your whole body due to solid tires and a lack of front suspensions.

But, if you are looking for a highly practical electric scooter with almost no requirements for maintenance and over-the-top reliability, then there's no better match for you than the Hiboy S2 Pro.
