Xiaomi Mijia M365 (Review) – One Incredible Electric Scooter

You may be struggling to find the right electric scooter for you, and that’s normal. The Xiaomi Mijia M365 is practical, fast enough, and pretty durable for most riders.

This electric scooter might be the right choice, especially when you see the elegant look this one has.

This post contains affiliate links. We're an Amazon affiliate. That means that we get small commissions for some items you buy through links in this post. And you don't get higher expenses that way.

However, the first thing we are going to discuss isn’t its appearance or color.

All of that is nice, but we’re taking a closer look at features that will make your life comfortable and worry-free.

So, let’s begin.

What to Expect from the Xiaomi Mijia M365’s Specs

You get a 250-watt brushless motor with 500 watts at peak power. It will give you enough performance as long as your weigh less than 220 pounds.

Of course, it can carry even more, but you won’t have good acceleration and power on hills if you are heavier than that.

Maximum range is 18 miles, and max speed is around 15.5 mph. That’s what the manufacturer claims. And if you like to ride full on all the time, with lots of hard braking and accelerating, expect 15 miles. That scooter uses an LG 18650 high capacity lithium battery that you can fully charge in 5.5 hours with a 42V and 1.7A charger.

The Xiaomi M365 electric scooter will pay off quickly. The e-scooter market is full of overpriced e-scooters and the M365 has its place, and is affordable for the majority of commuters.

Next, the braking system is excellent. You don’t have a foot brake, you have something better, much better. Once you hit the brakes, you can feel the difference compared to other electric scooters.

The Xiaomi M365 has a rear disc, and at the same time its applied, it activates the anti-lock electronic front brake. You won’t experience skidding or unsafe deceleration. It is just brilliant.

This is perfect electric scooter for riders:

  • Who need to cover a max of 15 miles a day
  • Who want cheap maintenance
  • Who don’t like going over 15 mph
  • Who like classic design
  • Who are lighter than 200 pounds

This is not good e-scooter for riders:

Pros & Cons of the Xiaomi Mijia M365 Scooter

Yes, the Xiaomi M365’s speed, range and battery capacity are good enough for most average commuters. However, you need to learn everything if you’re thinking about buying one of these.

First, I want to show you all the benefits of having a Mijia M365 and after that, I will show you the things that aren’t so good. We are going to cover every point, so you can make decision based on all the facts.

We are starting with the good news, this is what you get:

  • Cruise Control M365
  • Multifunctional bell
  • Xiaomi M365 eco mode
  • High-quality materials
  • High-visibility features
  • Remarkable braking
  • Super practical folding system
  • App for monitoring available data
  • Regenerating energy on downhill sections
  • Water and dust protection
  • Black and white option
  • Kickstand

And I'm not surprised at all that people love this e-scooter. But nothing is perfect!

There are some cons that are not deal breakers but are worth of mentioning.

Some DOWNSIDES that are not necessarily bad news:

  • Air-filled tires
  • Stand deck height
  • Handlebar is not adjustable
  • Leg push is needed

I appreciate all these useful features, and that is all remarkable. However, max speed might not be enough for some of you. Also, air-filled tires might become annoying if you are not skilled at changing them from time to time.

But you can overcome this by buying solid tires and putting them on. As I said, these cons are not deal breakers but are a bit annoying.

More Detailed Discussion about the Xiaomi M365 Mijia Review

Now, it’s time to dive into more detailed analysis.

How to Use the Xiaomi M365 Cruise Control

This one is clear as day. It can be practical and relaxing if you have a longer commute.

Hold it more than 5 seconds, and cruise control will activate. Touch a brake lever, and it is off. As simple as that. Holding a throttle isn’t hard work, but anyone who tried this can agree, it can be practical.

If the cruise control on your Xiaomi Mijia M365 is not working, you need to check it on your app. That is how you activate this useful feature.

Multifunctional Bell

This bell has another function besides ringing. When you fold your handlebars, you attach the bell to the fender.

The bell is basically a hook that locks everything into place. After that, you can pick up your scooter and carry it around.

Super Practical Folding System

Enjoy on your new Xiaomi Mijia m365

First of all, when an electric scooter arrives, you will need to do some assembly. It is a piece of cake, really. You get four screws and one Allen key. It is five minutes of work and it’s ready to go. And by the way, you also get a tire pump adapter and charger. There are lots of cool tutorial videos on YouTube if you need help.

After assembling, there is a very simple folding system. It’s simple, but it’s smart, and it works pretty well. At the bottom of the handlebar tube is a lever. You just take off the safety part, open the lever, then fold it.

At this point, the bell has moved. Attach it, and the job is finished. It is literally done in three seconds, and it can be convenient if your daily commute includes boarding a train or a bus.

Xiaomi Mijia M365 Dimensions

This is a pretty standard e-scooter. Not too small like toy scooters. And it’s not so bulky that you need to worry boarding a bus being an awkward situation. Also, if you want to put in in your car, you won’t need the entire trunk.

Here are dimensions (inches):

  • Unfolded: 42.5 x 16.9 x 44.8
  • Folded: 42.5 x 16.9 x 19.3

What about Xiaomi M365 Eco Mode Range & Speed

There is one thing you should be aware of.

The manufacturer claims that you can go 18.6 miles before you need to recharge.

Maybe so, but this is possible only if you are:

  • Riding in eco mode
  • A 165-pound rider
  • Riding on a flat road
  • Without winds
  • At 9 mph

Remember that fact, you don’t want to be surprised. You can activate eco mode on your Xiaomi Mijia scooter by a double-clicking the button on the stem.

If you see that one green LED light on, it’s activated. There are four lights that indicate the level of the battery and the one on the bottom should be green.

In that scenario, your max speed is 11 mph, and you have less acceleration power as well.

Key takeaways here:

  • Normal mode has a higher top speed and more intense acceleration
  • Eco mode Xiaomi m365 has a lower top speed and less intense acceleration

Obviously, range is better in eco mode. Even in Eco mode, you are five times faster than the average pedestrian, and with the range available, this is one of the best e-scooters out there.

But for those who love speed and fast e-scooters, this is serious problem.

Why we love eco mode on the M365:

  • Useful for beginners and children
  • Greater range
  • Speed is acceptable for areas with lots of people

What Can You Monitor with the App?

The Xiaomi M365 has an option to connect to your phone via Bluetooth, giving you the option to monitor your data.

Basic data like range, a percentage of the battery, and the speed is something we all expect, right?

But this app will show you more, like:

  • Remaining mileage
  • Average speed
  • Cruise Control Xiaomi M365
  • Energy Recovery Intensity M365
  • Taillight always on or off
  • Riding time
  • Temperature
  • Lock scooter

Of course, that won’t prevent your scooter from being stolen. This will only give you a beeping sound while a thief is running off with your scooter. But it’s a cool feature.

At least you will know that it is stolen. I know, not funny!

On the bright side, it can be useful if you are near your scooter. For example, when you go into a shop for a minute or two and you can’t see your scooter. If it beeps and your phone vibrates, you can run outside and catch the thief. Anyways, I suggest you use a U-lock bike lock.

Regenerating Energy on Downhill Sections

This electric scooter can recover some energy that would normally be wasted on downhill slopes. That will be useful if you live in a hilly area. However, there can be some problems.

There are some cases when the electric scooter was recovering energy while it was fully charged. That causes overcharging and issues with the control unit. It is rare, but possible.

Be aware of that set the energy recovery strength to WEAK in the app and you shouldn’t have any problems with control units.

Xiaomi Mijia M365 High-quality Materials

It’s made of aircraft-grade aluminum, like any other serious electric scooter on the market. It feels remarkably solid. The welding points are done well and the rubber material on the stand deck is outstanding, too. It is durable, and you won’t slip easily.

It weighs 27 pounds, and this is something we can see right away. However, that weight is actually good for the riding experience. This is one of the most comfortable scooters.

Even though it doesn’t have a suspension, the comfort level is pretty nice. But if you get solid tires, it will be a bit bumpier. You can even buy a front and rear suspension for the Xiaomi M365 for a couple of hundred dollars.

High-visibility Features

The lights are not super strong, so don’t expect that. The integrated headlight and taillight will make your life easier. You don’t need to think about where your lights and whether or not it is charged… but you can get a stronger headlight if you are riding at night more often.

The rear light is in pulsing mode when it is charging. Also, the taillight will turn on to indicate breaking. But, it’s always a good idea to get a strong rear light or to buy helmet with a rear light to be more visible at night. That weak light on scooters is just not enough.

Next, you also have reflective stickers on the sides. You can see them in the photos and notice that the manufacturer put those not just on the front end of the scooter, but also on the back. The Xiaomi Mijia M365 is safe e-scooter, even if your child rides it sometimes.

Leg Push Start

This is something that all people consider a big problem. I paid for an electric scooter, and now I have to give it some solid leg push like I bought a cheap kick scooter? What the heck!? In my opinion, this isn’t a bad thing.

Here are the benefits:

  • It is safer for children and beginners
  • You will never activate the throttle by accident
  • The battery will provide a greater range
  • The battery is under less load and lasts longer

Standing Deck Height

Yes, it is really low. That might be a problem for urban areas if those areas are not suitable for electric scooters. I mean curbs, of course, and a plastic cover under the battery box doesn’t help at all. This is something you should be aware of and watch out for. Be careful and watch those higher curbs.

There is one more thing you can do - put on a STRONGER COVER. I know it is an additional expense, but it can be the right move. The good news is that this scooter is popular and used all over the world, so you can find pretty awesome m365 e-scooter accessories and spare parts that will make your life easier.

Things like:

  • Suspension
  • Stickers
  • Fenders
  • Solid tires

Air-filled Tires

You can puncture these easily. This might be a problem. However, the comfort is there, as well as stability and braking performance.

Like anything in life, you get some benefits and like comfort, but also get the risk of puncture. But, don’t be disappointed so quickly.

Here are two thighs what you can do:

  • Use a slime that prevents puncture
  • Buy solid tires for the Xiaomi Mijia M365

What Are the M365 Alternatives?

If you are not into this one because of its weight, appearance, available speed, range or something else, that’s ok. We are going to show you some alternatives that might be better suited to your needs.

Glion Dolly Foldable vs. Xiaomi M365

These two are very similar when it comes to performance, so I will focus on the everyday benefits of having one or the other. The Glion Dolly foldable is cool to have if you board a bus often or plan to carry your scooter around when going into the mall or a shop.

The best thing is, you can roll it easily, while you need to carry the M365. And to be honest, 27 pounds is not easy to carry for more than a minute or two.

The second benefit is that the front suspension is not perfect, but at least it exists. And the third piece of good news is that the tires can’t go flat. And if you want that with the Xiaomi, you have to buy solid tires separately.

If you ask me, the M365 looks better, but all of these benefits might change your mind and the Glion Dolly foldable might be one of the best alternatives out there.

Ninebot vs. Mijia M365

A very similar e-scooter but better in every aspect. That means if you need more range, speed and power, the Segway Ninebot MAX is for you.

You will get 40 miles, 18.6 mph, 350 watts and bigger wheels.

Instead of the 18.6 miles, 15.5 mph and 250 watts that you get from the Xiaomi M365.

However, the good news end here. That’s because you will pay more and get 15 pounds additional pounds to carry. So it’s all about what your needs are and the price you are willing to pay for extra performance.

FAQs

Can you go uphill with the Xiaomi M365 scooter?

You can go uphill, but it will drain the battery much faster, especially if you are more than 200 pounds. And you will be really slow – 10 mph, or even less. If you have hilly areas around your home, use a more powerful electric scooter, 250 watts is just not enough.

Can you use Xiaomi scooter M365 for off road?

It is not smart to take the Xiaomi M365 off road. Especially if you have inflatable tires. This e-scooter is not made for off road trails and dirt. There is no suspension, no treads in the tires and there isn’t enough power for off road abuse.

Is the Xiaomi M365 electric scooter waterproof or water resistant?

It has the IP54 rating, which means that this is water resistant e-scooter, not waterproof. It can endure light rain and wet weather, but you need to avoid heavy rain and puddles.

Is it a good idea to buy a second hand Xiaomi M365?

If you can buy used electric scooters on eBay and from friends, why not? You can save lots of money, but there are some risks involved. You won’t have a warranty and there might be some hidden damage that you can’t see right away.

Final Thoughts

The Xiaomi Mijia M365 is the right decision for commuters who need to cover up to 15 miles and people who don’t like to go too fast. This e-scooter solves a lot of problems.

It is practical, fast enough and it has decent range and comfort. And, for an affordable price, looks surprisingly elegant.

You will see children, business people, teenagers and sharing companies buying these. And that’s no coincidence.

This is easily one of the best e-scooters for the money.
